Legendary Story
A story about a fondly remembered college professor was the platform for celebrating the value of a liberal arts education. Dr. James G. Leyburn, who taught at Yale and at Washington and Lee until his retirement in 1972, was the embodiment of the classic scholar. An article written by one of his students in September 2017 in the Richmond Times-Dispatch generated 80 emails and many warm memories. One W&L alum wrote that remembrance of Dr. Leyburn “…jumpstarted my return to annual giving.”
